Rajnandan Offset

Plot 63 on Tambadkar Lane is our spot. It’s an old-school offset setup. We like the machines here. They have a certain way of working that you don't get with new digital stuff. It’s loud and it vibrates the floor sometimes. We’ve been on this lane for a long time. The neighbors are used to the hum of the presses. We do a lot of paper work. Books, forms, cards, you name it. There is always the smell of ink and cleaning fluid in the air. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the stacks of paper. We have to be careful not to trip over things. We don't have a fancy showroom. If you come by, you’re coming right into the workshop. We might have some ink on our shirts. That’s just part of the job. We take things as they come. Some days we have huge stacks to get through. Other days we’re just maintaining the equipment. It’s a steady life. We don't do much advertising. People just find us by word of mouth or by walking down the lane. We’ve seen other shops come and go. We just keep our heads down and keep the rollers turning. The light in the lane gets a bit dim in the evening, so we have some bright lamps over the sorting tables. It’s not a perfect system, but it works for us. We know exactly which drawer holds which plates. It’s all about the rhythm of the work. If you need something printed, we just talk about it.
