Chakresh Bricks

In the village of Kathautiya, just near the main road, is where you'll find Chakresh Bricks. We are out here in the Sagar district, and it’s a good place for what we do. Making bricks is old-fashioned work, really. It depends on the earth and the fire and the weather. If it rains too much, we have to stop and wait for things to dry out, which can be frustrating when you have a lot of orders to fill. But when the sun is out, the kilns are running and everyone is busy. We are near Deori Khas, and most of the people who work here are from the nearby villages. It’s a tight-knit group. We aren't some big factory with machines doing everything; there's a lot of manual labor involved in getting those bricks shaped and baked right. You can see the smoke from the chimneys from quite a distance away. People come by with their tractors or trucks to pick up loads for their construction projects. We just give them a fair price and help them load up. It’s a dusty, hot job, especially in the summer months, but there’s a certain satisfaction in seeing a finished stack of red bricks ready to go. We've been at this for a while and don't plan on changing how we do things. We just keep our heads down and keep the fire going until the sun goes down.
