Shubham Store

Our shop is in Dumka, right near Hotel Sona. Most people in the district know where that is, so it makes it easy for folks to find us. Shubham Store is just a regular local shop where we keep a bit of everything on the shelves. It’s usually a bit cramped because we try to fit as much stock as possible into the space we have. The wooden counters are worn down from people leaning on them over the years. We have a small stool behind the counter where one of us sits when it's quiet, watching the traffic go by outside near the hotel. In the mornings, we spend time checking what needs to be reordered and sweeping the front step. It’s a bit of a dusty town, so the dust always finds its way onto the bottles and jars. We have a slow-moving ceiling fan and a calendar from three years ago still hanging on the wall because nobody bothered to take it down. Customers come in for small things, and we know most of them by name. It’s not a fancy supermarket; it’s just a place where you can get your daily needs. When the lights go out, we light a couple of candles and keep going. That’s just life in Dumka. We’re happy staying right where we are, close to the center of things. The tea stall next door brings us a cup every afternoon which is the best part of the day.
