Rani Sati Rice Mill

Down on Dumka Road in Jampara, specifically in the village of Dhandra, is where Rani Sati Rice Mill sits. It is a bit out of the way, surrounded by fields and the Pahari Road. Being in a village means things move a little slower, except when it is harvest time. Then, everything gets very chaotic very quickly. We see tractors and carts lined up all the way down the road. Inside the mill, it is a world of metal and moving parts. We have worked here through many seasons, watching the weather and hoping for good crops. The building itself is sturdy but plain. We don't have any interest in making it look like a showroom. It is a place for work, and the work is often dirty and loud. We take turns watching the machines and making sure the rice is coming out clean. Sometimes we eat our lunch sitting on the steps outside, looking out at the road. It is a simple life in Dhandra. We know everyone in the village, and they know the sound of our mill starting up in the morning. We don't have any big plans to change things; we just want to keep the mill going and make sure the work gets finished before the sun sets over the hills.
