Damru Dhar Masala

Being located on Jhounsaghari Dumka Road means we see a lot of traffic. Most people know us because we are near the Hanuman Mandir in Devghar. You can hear the temple bells while we are working, which is nice when the day gets long. Damru Dhar Masala is just a small outfit. We don't have fancy marketing people. It’s just a few of us handling the spices. The main road is always noisy with trucks and rickshaws going towards Dumka. Our floor is always covered in a bit of spice dust no matter how much we sweep. It’s hard to keep a place like this perfectly clean when you’re dealing with powders all day. We just try to get the orders filled. Some days are slow and we just sit outside for a bit, watching the people go to the mandir. Other days, we are rushing to finish a batch of garam masala before the electricity goes out. That happens sometimes in this area. We’ve been at this address for a while now. It’s a plain building, nothing special to look at. We focus on the grinding. The smell of the coriander is the strongest in the mornings. It’s honest work. We don't make big promises, we just grind the spices and sell them to whoever needs them. It's just how we make a living. We enjoy the local atmosphere on the road. It feels like home to us.
