Our place is over at Plot No 880 in the Rithala Industrial Area. Vivia Elastics has been running from this spot for some time now. We make elastic tapes and cords that go into all sorts of clothes and other items. The machines make a lot of noise, a constant humming sound that you get used to after a week or so. It's a busy part of town, always something happening on the street outside. We have stacks of yarn and finished rolls of elastic everywhere. Sometimes the space feels a bit small when a big shipment comes in, but we manage to fit everything into the corners. The lighting inside isn't the greatest, but it works for what we need to do. We usually start early to beat the traffic coming into Rithala. Lunch is just sitting together in the back area. We don't have a marketing team or anyone like that. It’s just the folks who run the looms and the ones who pack the boxes. We check the stretch and the feel by hand mostly. If there's a problem with a machine, we try to fix it ourselves first. Working with elastics can be tricky because the tension has to be just right for the final product. We’ve learned a lot over the years by just doing the work every day. It’s a practical job. We just try to stay on top of the orders that come in through the week.
