You can find us at No. 985 in Bhojpura Gali, which is right in the middle of Maliwara over in Chandni Chowk. It’s a very busy part of the city, and our shop is tucked away in one of those narrow lanes where there’s always someone moving past. We mostly deal with sarees. The shelves are packed from the floor to the ceiling because we try to have a lot of variety. It gets quite warm in the summer, but we keep the fans going. We spend a lot of time folding and unfolding fabric for people who want to see the details. Chandni Chowk has a certain energy that you don't find anywhere else. Sometimes the deliveries are a struggle because the lanes are so thin, but we’ve figured out how to make it work over the years. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop around. We just want to make sure people find what they are looking for when they visit Maliwara. It’s a family-run kind of thing, so you usually see the same faces every time you walk in. We don't use much technology; we still write things down and keep track of stock manually. It works for us. If you’re looking for a specific pattern, we probably have it buried somewhere in a stack. The days are long, but being in Bhojpura Gali means we never get bored. We just keep the lights on and help the people who find their way to us.
