Unnati Collection

Our little shop is tucked away in Gali No. 5, near the Saraswati Bhandar on Subhash Road. Gandhi Nagar is a maze if you aren't used to it, but we’ve been at No. 9/259 for a long time. It’s a very busy wholesale market area, so there’s always someone pushing a cart or carrying a heavy bundle of clothes past our door. Space is tight here, so we have to stack our collections pretty high up to the ceiling. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than three people are inside at once, but we manage. We deal mostly in clothes that people need for their own shops. It’s not a place with bright lights and fancy music. We just have simple fluorescent bulbs and a lot of stock. Sometimes the street gets so crowded that even a motorbike can’t get through. We know our neighbors well, and we often share tea while waiting for the next delivery. The walls are a bit scuffed from moving boxes around, but that doesn't bother anyone. We don't have a website or anything like that; people just find us by walking through the lanes. We keep track of everything in big ledgers by hand. It’s the way we’ve always done it. If you find the right turn off Subhash Road, you’ll see our sign hanging out front. It is a humble place, but we stay busy.
