Our shop is tucked away in Ajmeri Gate at number 4003. It’s one of those places where you can smell the rubber as soon as you get close to the door. We have stacks of gaskets, hoses, and all sorts of rubber parts piled up high. The shelves go almost to the ceiling, and sometimes we have to use an old wooden ladder that wobbles a bit to reach the stuff at the top. It’s pretty cramped inside, especially when we get a delivery and there are boxes everywhere in the hallway. We’ve stayed in this same spot for years, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we never seem to get around to it. Usually, it’s just the sound of the fans humming and the noise from the street coming through the open door. People come in looking for specific sizes, and we spend a lot of time measuring things with old calipers to make sure they match. We don’t have a fancy computer system for everything; a lot of it is written down in big notebooks that we keep on the main counter. It gets hot in the summer, so we keep the water cooler running all day. It’s just a regular workplace where we deal with rubber goods and talk to the same delivery drivers every week. There’s nothing much more to it than that.
