Samko Switchgears Pvt Ltd is tucked away on Plot no 76, right on Street No 1 in Chanderlok. It’s just off Mandoli Road, which is a place that never really seems to get quiet. The building we’re in is a bit older, with some patches on the walls and a heavy iron gate that screeches when you open it. We use the main area for all the assembly work. There are stacks of switchgear parts piled up in the corners, sometimes reaching quite high. It’s a bit of a puzzle walking through the workshop when we have a big shipment ready to go. Our staff is mostly local people who walk or bike to work. We don't have a fancy reception area. If someone comes to visit, they usually just walk right into the work area and we find a stool for them to sit on. The lighting isn't the best, but we have lamps over the workbenches where the small assembly happens. We focus on the task at hand and don't spend much time worrying about the aesthetics of the office. On rainy days, the sound on the roof is so loud we have to shout to hear each other. It’s just a regular, working-class setup where the goal is to get the orders finished and sent out on time. We’ve been part of this neighborhood for a long time and know the other shop owners well. We usually close up when the street lights come on.
