The Black Steel

You can find us at Kh. No. 24, right above the Kotak Bank ATM in Saidulajad. You have to walk up the stairs on the side to get to us. We work with steel and iron here. It isn't a clean job. There is usually metal dust on everything and the smell of welding in the air. We make all sorts of things like frames, tables, and racks. If someone needs something sturdy, they come to us. We don't have a showroom with fancy lights. You just see the workshop and whatever we are building at the time. My hands are usually covered in grease or black paint by noon. It's hard work, and the noise from the grinders can be quite loud. We try not to work too late so we don't bother the neighbors too much. Some days it's just me working, and other times I have a friend who comes in to help with the heavy lifting. We don't use any fancy computer designs. We just draw it out on a piece of paper or right on the workbench. It works fine for what we do. The stairs are a bit narrow, so bringing the finished pieces down can be a real challenge. We've managed so far without dropping anything. It’s an honest way to spend the day.
