Ranjit Aluminium Works

Down in Kotla Mubarakpur, in the Wazir Nagar area, you’ll find our workshop at 1480/1 A. The sign out front says Ranjit Aluminium Works. It’s a loud place most of the time because we are always cutting or filing something. Aluminium is a good material to work with, but it leaves a lot of shavings on the floor. We spend half the day sweeping just so we don't slip. It’s just a small team of us here. We don't wear uniforms or anything, just old clothes that can get dirty. Most of what we do is making window frames or doors for the local houses around here. People bring us their measurements on scraps of paper, and we do our best to match them. Sometimes the measurements are wrong and we have to fix it later, which is always a bit of a laugh. The heat in the summer gets pretty bad under the tin roof, so we keep a big fan running all day. It doesn’t do much but move the hot air around. We aren't trying to be the biggest company in Delhi. We just want to do the work and make sure it’s done well enough that the customer doesn't come back to complain. That’s about all there is to it. We keep our tools sharp and our heads down. It is honest work and the years have gone by pretty fast.
