R N Glass

R N Glass is tucked away in Shahdara, over at Kadam Puri. Specifically, we are at Gali No 2, house number 496, near the Shani Bazar area. Glass is a tricky thing to work with. It’s heavy and it breaks if you breathe on it wrong. We handle all sorts of sheets and cuts here. The space is full of racks and cutting tables. You have to be careful where you walk. We’ve been in this lane for quite some time. The neighborhood is always moving, especially on bazaar days. We spend our time measuring, cutting, and smoothing edges. It’s a lot of focus. Sometimes the glass arrives in big crates and we have to unload them very slowly. It’s a small team here. We don't have a big sign or a fancy lobby. People usually find us through word of mouth or by just walking down Gali No 2. It’s honest work. Your hands get tough from handling the edges. We work with what we have. If someone needs a specific size for a window or a frame, we just get the cutter out. It’s a lot of repetition. The light in the workshop is usually bright so we can see any flaws. We just keep going, one sheet at a time, making sure the cuts are straight. Sometimes we make mistakes and have to start over on a piece. It’s part of the job and we don't mind it. People just come to the door and ask for what they need.
