Prerna Cutwork

Finding our spot in Gali Krishna Market can be a bit of a challenge if you aren’t used to the narrow lanes of Gandhi Nagar. It’s Ix/1583, right on Subhash Road, but it’s easy to miss with all the signs and people pushing carts around. Prerna Cutwork is a busy little place where the floors are almost always covered in tiny bits of thread and fabric scraps. We do a lot of detailed work here, so everyone is usually hunched over their stations with a lot of focus. The lighting isn't the best in this part of the building, so we have these bright white bulbs that hum while we work. It gets really hot in the summer months, especially when all the machines are running at once. We don't have a big fancy showroom; it’s mostly just shelves packed with finished pieces and boxes waiting to be taped up. The neighborhood is full of other shops doing similar things, so there is always a lot of shouting and moving of goods in the street outside. I usually bring my lunch from home and eat it quickly between managing the staff and checking the patterns. We’ve been at this for a long time, and the routine hasn't changed much. It’s about getting the needles moving and making sure the cutwork looks like it should before it leaves the door in a plastic bag for the customers.
