You can find Vikas Plastics at 4531 Gali Jatan in Pahari Dhiraj. We are right opposite the Syndicate Bank, which is the easiest way to tell people where to go. The lane, or gali, is quite narrow, so it’s always a bit of a squeeze when a delivery comes through. There’s a lot of foot traffic right outside our door, and you can hear the conversations of people passing by all day long. Inside, the space is packed with plastic goods and raw materials. It’s a bit of a tight fit, but we know where everything is kept. The air usually smells a bit like new plastic, which is a scent we’ve all grown accustomed to. We spend a lot of time counting stock and moving boxes around. It’s not the kind of place where people wear suits. We are usually in our shirt sleeves, trying to stay cool when the Delhi heat picks up. The bank across the street is a good landmark, and we often see the same faces going in and out of there every day. Being in Pahari Dhiraj means there is never a dull moment. There is always someone knocking on the door or a truck trying to navigate the turn. We just keep doing our thing, day after day, in this little corner of the city. It’s a bit chaotic and sometimes a bit messy, but it’s our daily reality and we are used to it by now.
