National Rural Roads Development Agency

Our little spot is located at A-72 in the Khanpur J.J. Colony area of New Delhi. It’s a crowded neighborhood, but it’s where the National Rural Roads Development Agency does its thing. We aren't in one of those tall glass buildings you see downtown. Instead, we’re right here in the middle of the colony, working on plans for roads in places far away from the city. Dealing with rural road connectivity involves a lot of maps and keeping track of construction progress in various states. It gets noisy outside sometimes with the local traffic, but we manage to get the work done. The office is pretty basic, just desks, computers, and a lot of files stacked up. We spend our days looking at project reports and making sure the road work is actually happening like it should. It’s a lot of coordination. Being in Khanpur means we’re close to the people, which feels right given what we do. There’s always someone coming in with a query or a document to sign. We don't have a big reception or anything like that. You just walk in and talk to whoever is at the desk. It’s a practical way to run things. We try to keep a handle on the thousands of kilometers of roads being built across the country from this small office. It's steady work. Sometimes the internet goes down which makes the whole place come to a standstill for a bit. We just wait for it to come back.
