Our office is tucked away in Manikaran, which is a beautiful but rugged part of the Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh. Pawan Kumar Singh is the civil engineer here, and he handles a lot of the on-site work for the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation. It is a different kind of life up here in the mountains compared to the big cities. The air is cold and the terrain is steep, which makes the engineering work quite a challenge. We aren't a big headquarters; it is more of a field office where the actual work happens. We deal with the river and the power projects right on the ground. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, but we just get on with it. There isn't any fancy corporate stuff here. It is mostly boots, maps, and technical drawings. We spend most of our time out by the water or checking on the construction progress. If you come looking for us, you’ll find us near the main project sites in Manikaran. It’s a practical life, focused on the civil side of things. We live and work in the same community, so everyone knows what we are doing. It is a small team and we rely on each other to get things done right. There is always something to fix or check on when you are working with hydro power in these hills. It’s just how things go when you’re building stuff in the mountains. We keep the paperwork moving and the projects active through every season.
