We’ve been here at No. 975 Bhoj Pura Maliwara for quite a while now. Nai Sarak is always busy, so you probably know the area if you spend any time in the market. Kari Gari started as a small setup just to handle the local demand for handiwork. It’s crowded inside sometimes because we have piles of fabric and threads everywhere. My family has been doing this kind of work for years. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that. Just a few rooms where the machines stay running most of the day. If you walk down the lane past the old shops, you’ll find us. It’s noisy and there’s always tea being passed around. We mostly just focus on getting the pieces finished on time. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to wait, but that’s just how it is in this part of town. People come in asking for specific patterns they saw somewhere else. We try to see if it’s possible with what we have on hand. It’s a lot of manual labor and long hours sitting on the floor. Most of the guys here have been with us since we opened. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop on the street. We just want to make sure the work is decent and the customers don't have to come back twice for the same thing. It's a simple life at Kari Gari, just keeping the old traditions going.
