Municipal Corporation Of Delhi

You can find us over at A-17 in Shiv Ram Park, right in the Nangloi area of New Delhi-41. This part of the city is always full of energy and a fair amount of dust. The Municipal Corporation Of Delhi office here is basically just a few rooms where we manage the local district stuff. It is not a place with shiny floors or air conditioning in every corner. We mostly deal with the people living right here in the park area and the nearby streets. The morning starts with clearing the desk from yesterday’s leftovers. There is a lot of hand-written record keeping still happening, and the shelves are heavy with old ledgers that smell of old paper. Sometimes the street outside gets blocked by a delivery truck, and the whole office stops to watch the chaos for a minute from the window. We have a small staff, so everyone knows everyone’s business. It is practical work, nothing more. We see a lot of people who are just trying to get their daily business sorted with the city without much trouble. The chairs are mismatched, and the clock on the wall is five minutes fast, but we keep it that way because it is easier. It feels like a real part of the neighborhood rather than a cold government building. We just do our bit and go home when the sun sets over Nangloi and the lights come on.
