Maya Bricks Field

Maya Bricks Field is out in the village of Bijwasan. If you know the New Delhi -61 area, you know it’s a bit on the edge of the city. We have been working with bricks here for a long time. It’s tough work and it’s very dependent on the weather. If it rains, everything slows down at the field. The office is just a small brick building near the site where we keep the books and handle the payments. It gets very dusty during the dry months, and you can always see the smoke from the kilns in the distance. We don't have any fancy air conditioning or leather chairs. It’s just a place to sit and do the accounting. Most of the day we are outside checking on the stacks or talking to the drivers. The village is a tight community and most people know us. It’s a simple business. We make bricks and we sell them. There’s no need to make it sound more complicated than that. My hands are usually a bit dirty from the site, but that’s just how it goes when you work in a brick field. We’ve seen the area around Bijwasan grow quite a bit, but we just keep doing what we've always done. It is not always easy, but it is what we know. We just stay here in the village and keep at it until the sun goes down.
