Our place is at No. 189/1 Prem Gali, Punja Sharif, right in the Kashmere Gate area. This is an old part of the city, and the lanes like Prem Gali are quite narrow. We’ve been operating out of here for a long time, so the walls have that worn-in look. Manoj Brothers isn't a big corporation; it’s more of a family-style setup where everyone knows what their job is. We mostly handle parts and trade, so there are bins and racks filled with all sorts of small items. It’s a bit dark inside the shop, but we know where every single nut and bolt is kept. The traffic at Kashmere Gate is legendary, so we usually hear the honking and the shouting from the main road all day long. We start early to avoid the worst of the heat and the crowds. Customers usually come in knowing exactly what they need, so we spend a lot of time fetching items from the back. There’s a small desk where we sit to do the accounts, usually with a cup of tea nearby. It’s a very practical way to work. We don’t put on any acts or use big words. We just talk to people plainly and give them what they asked for. The floor is old stone and the ceiling is high, which helps a bit with the air. It’s just our daily life here in the heart of the market.
