You can find Malak Footwear Co. at No. 782 in Ballimaran, which is right in the heart of Chandni Chowk. If you have ever been to this part of Delhi, you know how tight the lanes are and how many people are always walking around. It’s a very old area with a lot of history packed into every corner. Our shop isn't anything special to look at from the outside, just a regular door among many others. Inside, we have stacks of footwear reaching pretty high up toward the ceiling. It can get a bit dark in these narrow streets, even during the daytime. We spend our hours talking to customers and moving boxes around. The noise of the rickshaws and people shouting outside is just the background music to our day. Ballimaran is famous for shoes, so we fit right in with the rest of the neighborhood. It’s a bit of a maze back here and if you aren't careful, you might walk right past us without noticing. We don't really do much to stand out, we just keep the shop open and sell what we have. Some days are busier than others, especially when the festivals are coming up. We’ve seen the seasons change many times from this same spot. It’s a lived-in kind of place, a bit dusty and crowded, but it’s where we belong. We just keep things moving and hope for a good day.
