Lado Sarai is a funny place because it is full of designers and wood shops. Our office at F 566 is right in the middle of all that. We do interior work, so there are always samples of tiles, wood shavings, and catalogs lying around. It is a bit messy, but that is how we work. The narrow lanes of Lado Sarai are always crowded with trucks loading and unloading furniture. It makes getting to the office a bit of a challenge sometimes. We spend our days talking to carpenters and looking at drawings for Magnum Interior. The walls of the office could use a fresh coat of paint, but we are usually too busy working on other people’s places to fix our own. Delhi summers are brutal here, so the small AC unit we have works overtime. We do not have a formal dress code or anything. Most days we are just in jeans and t-shirts, ready to head to a site. People walk in all the time asking for advice or looking for a price. We just sit them down and show them what we have on the table. It is a practical environment. There is no corporate polish here. We deal with the noise of the traffic and the dust from the nearby shops. It is just how things are in this part of New Delhi. We focus on the wood, the glass, and the fabric until the job is finally finished.
