We are tucked inside the Hotel Royal Castle at D-616 in Nehru Place. It is a bit of a different vibe compared to the busy computer market outside. Inside here, it is mostly quiet except for the sound of the display cases being opened and closed. I spend a lot of my shift arranging the cakes and checking that the coffee machine is running right. Nehru Place is always buzzing with office workers, so we see a lot of them coming in for a quick break. It isn't a massive operation, just a small spot where people sit for a bit. We have to keep the marble surfaces polished because they show every fingerprint. Sometimes people come in just to get out of the heat for a few minutes while they wait for their meetings. The smells from the kitchen are usually pretty good, mostly butter and sugar. We don't really do much talking unless someone asks a question about what's in a specific tart. It’s a lot of repetitive work, like boxing up items and making sure the napkins are stocked. The hotel guests come through too, mostly looking for something small before they head out. It’s a steady pace, nothing too crazy, just making sure the displays look decent and the floor stays clean. When the sun starts going down, the light hits the window in a certain way that makes the whole place feel a bit warmer. We just finish up the last orders and call it a day.
