Bhat Shawl House Delhi is over at E No. 61 in Lajpat Nagar. If you’ve ever been to Lajpat Nagar, you know it’s one of the busiest places in the city. There’s people everywhere and the noise never really stops. Our place at E No. 61 is a bit more settled. We have a lot of shawls here, piled up in different sections. It’s what we’ve always dealt with. The building is older, and the rooms have high ceilings which helps when it’s hot outside. We don’t have any fancy displays. We just pull things out from the stacks when someone wants to see them. It’s a very hands-on way of doing things. Most of the time it’s just the family or a couple of helpers around. We don't have a corporate structure or anything. It’s just a house that we’ve turned into a business space. The street outside is always full of rickshaws and shoppers. Sometimes it’s hard to even get to the door. We’ve seen the neighborhood change so much over the decades. New shops come and go every month, but we’ve stayed here. We don’t do much to promote ourselves. People usually find us because their parents or neighbors told them about us. It’s a steady way to live. We just keep the inventory moving and talk to the people who walk through the door. It’s our small corner of Delhi.
