Our shop, Sanghvi Cables India, is tucked away at No. 1/548 on Street No.6 in the Friends Colony Industrial Area, right off G. T. Road in Shahdara. Since we are in an industrial area, there is always the sound of trucks and machinery nearby. It’s a bit of a dusty place, as you might expect given the location. We deal with a lot of cable rolls and heavy spools, so the floor is usually covered in bits of insulation and wire clippings. We don’t have a fancy lobby or a receptionist. If someone comes by, they usually just walk straight into the work area and find one of us. We have a small partitioned area that acts as an office, but we spend most of our time out on the floor. The air smells a bit like rubber and metal. We’ve been at this for several years now, and the routine hasn’t changed much. We start in the morning, check the orders, and start getting the cables ready for delivery. Sometimes the spools are heavy and it takes a couple of us to move them around. We keep a cooler for water and a small table for our lunch. It’s a straightforward way to make a living. We don’t worry about making the place look perfect. As long as the work gets done and the orders are right, we’re satisfied. We just keep our heads down and work.
