Creative Leather

Jhandewalan is a busy part of town, especially around the Flatted Factory Complex. We are on the Ground Floor at B-9. Creative Leather is basically a big room full of the smell of raw hides and tanning supplies. It’s a very specific smell that stays on your clothes long after you leave. We do everything from cutting the leather to finishing the edges. It’s heavy work sometimes because the rolls of leather can be quite bulky to move around. We don't have a fancy display window. If you walk into our unit, you’ll just see people hunched over benches with knives and mallets. We’ve been in this complex for a long time, so we know all the other shop owners nearby. Sometimes we trade tools or help each other out when a machine breaks. It’s a bit messy with all the scraps on the floor, but we sweep up every evening. We don't try to make it sound like more than it is. We just make leather goods. It’s a craft that takes time to learn, and we’re just happy to keep doing it here in the heart of Delhi. It’s not easy work, but it’s what we know. We just take the hides, cut the pieces, and stitch them together until the job is done right.
