Ishita Cable Co.

Our business, Ishita Cable Co., is tucked away in the Jhilmil Industrial Area, right at A-1. If you know Shahadra, you know it gets pretty crowded around here during the day. We are very close to the Chintamani Hotel, which is where most of us grab a quick bite when we aren't too busy with the machines. Inside, the place is full of heavy copper wire and plastic insulation. It’s usually quite loud because the drawing machines make a constant hum that you eventually stop hearing after a few hours. We’ve been at this for a long time in this same building. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are more focused on getting the cables rolled and ready for the morning deliveries. There is always a bit of a mess with the scrap bits on the floor, but we sweep up every evening before locking the gates. Usually, the trucks have a hard time backing into the narrow lane, so there is a lot of shouting and waving hands to get them parked right. It’s just how things work in this part of Delhi. We don't do much sitting around. Most of the day is spent standing by the spooling racks or checking the thickness of the wires. It’s simple work but it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday without much break. We just focus on the cables and keeping the machines running.
