We are way up on the 11th floor of the Kailash Building on Barahkhamba Road. It’s a big, old building that’s seen a lot of history in New Delhi. Getting to work every day involves waiting for the elevators, which can be quite slow during the morning rush. Once you get up here, the view of the city is actually pretty impressive, though we are usually too busy to look out the window for long. The office is a mix of old wooden desks and newer computers. It’s quite a large space, but it’s mostly quiet because everyone is focused on their own work. We have a small pantry where we all gather for lunch, and that’s usually the loudest part of the day. The Barahkhamba area is always packed with cars and people, so being eleven floors up gives us a bit of a break from all that noise. We handle a lot of paperwork and digital files every day. It’s not a shop where people just walk in off the street, so it feels a bit more secluded than other businesses. We have stacks of files everywhere and the air conditioning is always humming in the background. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait for the building’s generator to kick in. It’s just part of working in an older high-rise in the heart of the city. We have a simple routine and we stick to it.
