Up here in Haldwani, our office is at House Number 2-144 in Shanti Nagar. It’s a pretty straightforward residential area, which makes it feel more like a home base than a sterile office. We’re in the Nainital district, so we get to see the hills in the distance when the weather is clear. The office itself is just a regular room with some desks and a lot of paper. Construction in this part of Uttarakhand has its own set of challenges, especially with the terrain and the weather. We spend a lot of time figuring out the best way to get things done without making a mess of the local area. It’s a quiet neighborhood for the most part. We have people dropping by to ask about work or just to say hello. We don’t have a big corporate sign out front, just the house number. Most of our work happens on-site, but this is where we do all the thinking and the planning. It’s a small team, so everyone does a bit of everything. We drink a lot of tea and talk through the daily problems. It’s not a polished environment, but it’s honest and it works for us. We’ve been operating as Hindustan Construction Company here for a while and we plan to stay focused on our local projects. There is always something that needs fixing or building.
