Our office is tucked away in the hills of Himachal Pradesh. We are located in Village Chowki, which is part of the Khelet area in Palampur, Kangra district. Working up here is very different from being in the plains. The air is much colder and the views of the mountains are everywhere. We are based at Kamal Awasthi’s place. It’s a modest building that serves as our local headquarters for the projects in this district. Life moves a bit differently in the mountains. We have to plan everything around the weather and the narrow roads. The staff here is small and we all do a bit of everything, from answering the phone to checking site logs. We don't have any corporate branding on the walls, just some old photos and necessary notices. It feels more like a home than a stiff office. We spend a lot of time making sure the materials can actually reach the construction sites without getting stuck. It takes a lot of patience to work in this terrain. Most of us enjoy the quiet, even if it gets a bit isolated in the winter. We just focus on the daily tasks and try to be helpful to the locals when they have questions about our work. It’s a steady, quiet life compared to the big cities.
