We’ve been here in Tansen Nagar for quite a while now. Gwalior is where we started, right at 432. It’s a busy spot. Most mornings, you’ll find us opening up the shutters around nine, maybe a bit later if the traffic is bad. We deal with engineering stuff, mostly parts and repair work that people bring in from the highway. There’s always dust on the desks and the sound of machines in the back. It isn’t a fancy place. We have a couple of guys who know their way around a lathe and some welding tools. Sometimes the tea man comes by twice, sometimes he forgets. We just get on with the work. People know where to find us if something breaks down or if they need a specific piece of metal cut to size. The walls could use a new coat of paint, honestly, but we’re usually too busy with the actual jobs to bother with that. It’s mostly about getting the measurements right and making sure things fit like they’re supposed to. We don’t have a big front office or anything. Just the workshop and a small space to sit down. Gwalior gets hot in the summer, so we keep the fans running full blast. It’s just how it is here at Highway Engg. We see a lot of the same faces week after week. It’s steady work and we like being part of the neighborhood. The grease on our hands is just part of the daily routine.
