If you’ve ever walked through Shanker Market over in Nabi Karim, you know how crowded it gets. We are tucked away at 6127/2 on Jhandewalan Road. It’s a tight squeeze in this part of town. Harsh Bag Industries is really just a workshop full of fabric rolls and sewing machines. There is always a layer of dust on the windows no matter how often we wipe them down. We mostly focus on getting the stitching right. You can hear the rhythmic clicking of the needles from the street if the door is open. We don't have a fancy reception desk or anyone in a suit. Usually, you’ll find us with thread on our shirts and tape measures around our necks. We eat lunch together on the big cutting table once it’s cleared off. The lighting isn't the best, so we use those extra lamps to see what we are doing. It’s a lot of manual work and your back starts to ache by five o'clock. We move the finished bags into stacks near the entrance so the delivery guys can grab them easily. It gets loud and sometimes it feels a bit chaotic with all the scraps on the floor, but we have our own way of doing things. We’ve been at this for years and the rhythm of the market is just part of our life now.
