The office is located at Harishanker Cottage, which sits right behind the Cantt Police Station in Daudpur. It’s a pretty easy landmark for anyone in Gorakhpur to find. The cottage itself has a bit of history to it, and it feels much more like a home than a regular office building. Alok and the team are usually here from early morning. We have a small garden area out front that we try to keep tidy, though the weeds grow fast during the rainy season. Inside, the rooms are high-ceilinged and keep relatively cool even when it’s scorching outside in U.P. We do a lot of our thinking and planning in the main room. There’s always a blueprint or a ledger spread out on the table. It’s a bit cluttered with samples and tools, but we know where everything is. The sound of the police sirens occasionally reminds us of how close we are to the station. We’ve got a small kitchen where we heat up our lunch. It’s a quiet life for the most part, away from the main road traffic. We deal with people from all over the area who come in to talk about their projects. We don’t have a fancy website or a big marketing team. Most people just hear about us from their neighbors or friends. It’s a local way of doing things that has worked for years.
