Grandlay Cinema

Grandlay Cinema has been a part of the New Friends Colony neighborhood in New Delhi for quite some time. The complex is a familiar sight to anyone who lives nearby. When you walk in, you can usually smell the popcorn and hear the faint sound of a movie playing behind the heavy doors. It isn't like those massive new malls you see everywhere now. This place has a more traditional feel to it. The ticket booth is still there and we have the same posters up on the walls for whatever is showing this week. We spend a lot of our time making sure the projectors are running right and that the seats are clean for the next show. On the weekends, the lobby gets crowded with families and groups of friends looking to spend a few hours out of the sun. Dealing with the Delhi heat is a big part of the job, so we keep the cooling running as best as we can. Sometimes the lines get long and people get a bit impatient, but we just keep moving through the tickets. It is a local spot where people have been coming for years. We know many of the regulars who stop by just to see what is playing. It is a simple business, really. We show movies, sell some snacks, and try to make sure everyone has a decent time before they go back out into the city traffic.
