Ginger Brown

You can find us at Shop No 8 in the Main Bazar of Ballabgarh. It’s a pretty traditional market area, so there’s always a lot of noise from the street vendors and the traffic. We’ve been here at Ginger Brown for a while now, just doing our thing. The shop isn't huge, but we make use of every inch of space we have. Most mornings start with the smell of stuff baking, which is probably the best part of the job. We have shelves to stock and windows to clean every day because the dust from the street gets everywhere. People come in for all sorts of things, sometimes just a quick snack or a loaf of bread. We know a lot of the other shopkeepers around here, so there is a bit of a community feel in the bazar. It’s not like those big malls where nobody knows anyone. We deal with the usual problems, like the heat in the summer or when the rain leaks a little near the front door. We just fix it and move on. My apron usually has some flour on it by midday. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy. We don’t spend much time on decorations or anything like that; we just focus on making sure there’s enough food on the shelves for the afternoon rush. When the market starts to quiet down in the evening, we finally get a chance to sit for a minute before cleaning up. It’s a long day.
