Salek Chand Jain Sons

Salek Chand Jain Sons is one of the many shops in the Shanti Moholla area of Gandhi Nagar. We are located at X/3470 in the New Jain Market. It’s a very old part of the market, and you can feel the history in the narrow lanes and the way the buildings are built right next to each other. Our shop is mostly filled with textiles and different types of fabric. We spend a lot of time measuring out lengths of cloth and folding them back up neatly. The wooden counters have been here for years and are worn smooth from all the fabric sliding across them. It’s usually quite busy with people coming in to look at the new stock we get in. The light isn't the brightest, so we have to use some extra tube lights to see the colors of the threads properly. We usually have some snacks from the local vendors nearby during the afternoon slump. It’s a place where everyone knows everyone else’s name. We don't use any fancy computer systems for everything; a lot of it is still written down in big registers with red covers. It’s just a straightforward business that has been part of Shanti Moholla for a long time. We like the familiarity of the routine and the constant hum of the market outside our door. There is no stress here, just work.
