About Prakash Textiles – Fashion & Trends in Delhi
Gandhi Nagar is a maze, and we are tucked away in Gali No. 8 in Shanti Mohlla. Prakash Textiles has been in this narrow street for quite a while. X/3753 is the door number. It’s always packed with rolls of fabric. You can barely walk through the aisles sometimes. We deal with a lot of different traders. The noise of the market is constant. We start early in the morning, usually before the heat gets too bad. The lighting inside isn't the best, but we know where everything is. We don't use fancy computers for everything; a lot is still written down in ledgers. Our staff knows the weight and feel of the cloth just by touching it. It’s a lot of dusty work. We have a small fan that barely does anything, but we’re used to it. The delivery guys are always coming and going with big bundles on their backs. It’s a tight space. We don't have a showroom with fancy lights. It’s just rows and rows of textiles. Sometimes we have tea with the neighbors when it’s slow. Gandhi Nagar is a tough place to work because it’s so crowded, but it’s where all the action is. We just keep doing our bit every day. The stairs are steep and narrow, so moving rolls of heavy fabric up and down is a workout for the boys. We try to keep things moving as fast as possible.
