H. R. K. Garments

Our place is at 9/7049 Gurunanak Street in Gandhi Nagar, and if you know this area, you know how tight the streets are. H. R. K. Garments is basically a tall stack of fabric and finished shirts. We have rows of sewing machines and the constant hum of motors running from early morning until late. It gets pretty loud, and the air is always thick with the smell of new cloth and machine oil. We don’t have a fancy lobby or a receptionist. If you walk in, you’re likely to walk right into someone carrying a big bundle of sleeves or collars. We spend most of our time making sure the stitching is tight and the sizes are what they should be. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but we’ve got a good rhythm going. Sometimes we find ourselves working under the bright fluorescent lights for hours without realizing the sun has gone down. Gandhi Nagar is a tough place to navigate with a truck, so we spend a lot of time lugging bags by hand to the main road. Our fingers get calloused and our eyes get tired, but that’s just how it is in the garment trade. We don't put on a show for anyone. We just focus on the piles of fabric in front of us and try to get through the daily list without too many mistakes. It is just us working hard on Gurunanak Street to get the orders finished.
