Dasgupta &Company

Dasgupta &Company is on the second floor of a building in Tilak Nagar, New Delhi. The address is 11/50A. If you know Tilak Nagar, you know how crowded and loud it can get. The streets are full of shoppers and rickshaws, especially near the metro station. Getting up to our office involves climbing some narrow stairs that have seen better days. Once you are inside, it’s a bit quieter, but you can still hear the honking from the main road. The office has a lot of wooden cupboards filled with old files and ledgers. We have some heavy desks and fans that click as they turn. It is a very traditional Delhi setup. We spend our mornings drinking tea and going through the mail. There is always someone coming in to ask a question or drop off a document. The lighting isn't great, but we have enough lamps to see what we are doing. In the winter, it gets quite chilly, so we keep our jackets on while we work. In the summer, the air conditioner struggles against the Delhi heat. We aren't a big firm with hundreds of employees. It’s just a few of us who have known each other a long time. We take our lunch breaks together, often getting something from the street vendors downstairs. It is a busy, slightly chaotic way to work, but it suits the energy of West Delhi.
