Cushion Cottage is located at 9 Harris Road in the village of Swanton Morley. It’s a small workshop where we spend our days surrounded by all sorts of fabrics and sewing supplies. The place is often a bit of a muddle, with fabric remnants and thread ends scattered across the worktables. We focus on making cushions and other bits of soft furnishings for people’s homes. It’s a quiet life here in the village, and we like it that way. We don't have any big industrial machines; we just use our old reliable sewing machines that have been with us for years. Most of our customers are locals who stop by with a specific idea in mind. We spend a lot of time measuring and cutting, and sometimes a lot of time unpicking stitches when something doesn't look quite right. We don't have a fancy showroom. If you want to see what we’re working on, you just have to come into the workshop and look at the benches. It’s just a couple of us here, and we usually have the kettle on for a cup of tea. We aren't trying to be a major retailer. We just enjoy the process of taking a piece of cloth and turning it into something useful. The light in the workshop is lovely in the afternoon, and it’s a very peaceful place to spend the day. We take things one project at a time and try to do a decent job for everyone who comes in.
