Cotton & Silk

If you know Chandni Chowk, you know how busy it can get. Our shop, Cotton & Silk, is right in the middle of it at Hathi Market in Katra Neel. It’s Shop No. 493/6. It is a tiny place, but we pack a lot into it. Every morning we open the shutters and start stacking the rolls of fabric. The market is full of noise, people shouting, and the smell of street food. It is a lot to take in if you aren't used to it. We deal in exactly what our name says—cotton and silk. The colors are always bright and it makes the shop look cheerful even on cloudy days. We don't have a lot of room for chairs, so we are usually on our feet all day. Customers come in from all over, looking for specific textures or patterns. We've been in Katra Neel for years, and we know many of the other traders around here. It feels like one big family, even if we are all competing for space. We don't have a website or anything like that. We just rely on the people walking through the market. Sometimes it’s chaotic, especially during the festival seasons, but we wouldn't want to be anywhere else. There is a certain energy in Chandni Chowk that you just don't find in a modern mall. We just keep doing what we've always done and hope for a good day ahead.
