M. R. Malhotra Sons

We are located at No. 392 Chowk Houz Qazi. The shop is M. R. Malhotra Sons. It’s an old family thing. My father worked here and now we do. The area is very old and the streets are quite narrow. You can’t really bring a big car here. We handle various items and parts. The bins are full of stock. Everything is heavy. The floor is concrete and it’s stained from years of work. We don’t have air conditioning, just a big ceiling fan that wobbles a bit. In the winter it gets cold so we wear extra sweaters. We know most of our customers by their first names. They’ve been coming to Houz Qazi for decades. We don't bother with a website or any of that. If someone needs something, they just come and ask. We spend a lot of time counting stock and writing in our ledgers. We still use paper books for everything. It’s just easier for us. The tea stall around the corner brings us tea twice a day. That is the highlight of the afternoon. We aren't trying to grow big or anything. We just want to keep the shop running like it always has been. It’s a steady life and we are used to the noise and the smell of the market. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the front door, so we put a bucket there. It's an old building that has seen a lot of history.
