Sardar Silk House

Our shop sits at No. 469 Chandni Chowk. If you have ever been to this part of Delhi, you know it is a total maze. We have stayed in this same spot while the city changed around us. It is a bit of a squeeze inside with all the silk stacked up. We mostly deal with traditional fabrics. The colors are bright, and the textures are all different. Every morning starts the same way: unlocking the heavy shutters and dusting off the counters. We are not a big corporation. It is just a few of us making sure the customers find what they need for their ceremonies. We have seen generations of families come through these doors. It is kind of funny how things work. A grandmother brings her granddaughter, and they argue over which shade of red is better. We just stand there and help them measure it out. The stairs are a bit steep if you have to go up to the storage area. We do not put on any airs here. We just show the fabric, tell you the price, and that is that. It is honest work. The nights are quiet after the market shuts down, but during the day, it is non-stop. We do not use any high-tech gadgets to sell things. It is all about looking at the weave and feeling the weight of the silk in your hands. That is the only way to really know.
