We are sitting on the 1st floor of a building in Gali Jutte Wali. This is right in Nai Sarak, which is a very famous part of Chandni Chowk. Giri Lal Prem Chand Sarees Pvt. Ltd. has been part of this old neighborhood for a long time. Being on the 1st floor means we have to carry everything up and down the narrow stairs, which is quite a workout every day. The lane outside, Gali Jutte Wali, is usually packed with people and shoppers. You can smell the street food and hear the bells of the rickshaws from our windows. Inside, we have rows and rows of sarees tucked into shelves. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us. We don't have air conditioning in every corner, so it gets a bit warm during the Delhi summers. We spend our hours unfolding sarees for people to look at and then folding them back up neatly. Chandni Chowk is a chaotic place, but there is a rhythm to it that we like. We are not a fancy boutique; we are just a traditional saree business in the heart of Old Delhi. Most of our day is spent talking to regular customers who have been coming to Nai Sarak for years. It is a busy, loud, and very real place to work. We wouldn't want to be anywhere else despite the noise and the crowds.
