Balaji Traders

We are down on the ground floor at Cr 217 in Lalita Park. Laxmi Nagar is a crowded place, and our little corner is no different. Being on the ground floor is handy because we don’t have to lug heavy boxes up any stairs. People walking by often peek in to see what’s going on. We trade in various goods, so the inventory changes quite a bit from week to week. There’s usually a stack of boxes near the entrance waiting to be picked up or sorted. The lighting isn't the brightest, but it works for what we do. We have a couple of desks pushed against the wall and a few chairs for when people stop by to talk business. It gets quite noisy with the bikes zooming past the door. We usually keep the door half-open to get some breeze, though it brings in the street noise too. It’s a simple setup. We don't spend money on fancy decorations because we’re here to work. My cousin helps out with the accounts sometimes, and we have a boy who runs errands for us. The afternoon sun hits the front of the shop pretty hard, so we have a small awning. It’s a local life, knowing the other shopkeepers and seeing the same faces every day. We just try to keep the books straight and make sure everyone gets exactly what they asked for. We close up around eight and walk home.
