Tiwari Masale

Tiwari Masale is right in the Main Market area on Ramjhula Road. If you have ever been down this way, you know how crowded it gets. There are people everywhere, and the noise never really stops until very late at night. Our shop is small, and we have shelves lined with all sorts of masalas. We spend most of the day talking to people who come in for a few grams of this or that. It’s a very local feel. We know most of the people who walk past our door. The floor is made of old stone, and it’s worn down in the spots where people stand the most. We don't have any air conditioning, so we just have a big ceiling fan that wobbles a bit when it's on high. It’s a simple setup. We don't use any fancy computers to track stuff; we mostly just write it down in a big ledger book. Sometimes we run out of space for all the bags, so they end up sitting in the narrow walkway. It’s a bit of a squeeze to get through. We’ve been on Ramjhula Road for years, and not much has changed in our shop. The street outside has been paved and repaved, but inside, it’s the same old wooden counters. We just keep doing things the way we always have, serving whoever walks in through the market crowd and making sure they get what they came for before we close up the shutters for the evening.
