Smi Hospital Dehradun is just where we are every day. It’s located at the SMI hospital site and there is always something going on here. Most days start pretty early because patients are already waiting by the time the sun is up over the hills. Dehradun has a specific kind of air and you can feel it coming through the main doors. We’ve got the usual hospital smells, like floor cleaner and medicine, and the hallways are mostly full of people from the nearby colonies. Some of us have worked here for years and we know the shortcuts between departments by heart. It’s not fancy or anything. The chairs in the waiting area have seen a lot of use and the desks are piled with files that need filing. We try to keep things moving but sometimes there’s a wait. That’s just how it goes in a place like this. When it rains, the sound on the roof is loud. We spend our lunch breaks talking about the local traffic or what’s happening in the market. It’s a busy life here at Smi Hospital. There are families coming in and out all day long. Some people are just here for a quick check and others are staying a while. We keep the water cooler filled and try to make sure there are enough pens at the front desk. It is just a regular part of the neighborhood where people come when they aren't feeling well.
