Khan Chand Uttam Chand & Co.

Our shop is up in Chakrata, not far from the Punjab National Bank. If you know the area, you know it’s a bit of a climb to get around. We’ve been here in this village for a very long time, through many winters and summers. It’s a family-run thing, started way back, and we just kept it going under the same name. People around here know us as Khan Chand Uttam Chand & Co. We don’t do much advertising because everyone in the tehsil already knows where we are. Dealing with the cold is just part of the job when you’re up here. In the mornings, we wait for the sun to hit the street before things really get moving. Being near the bank means there’s always people walking past. Some stop in to chat, others have actual business to tend to. We handle all sorts of supplies and general trade. It’s not a fast-paced city life. Things move at a different speed in the hills. We keep our records, talk to our regulars, and make sure we have what people need. It’s a simple life and we like it that way. The office is small and filled with old ledgers and the smell of wood smoke in the winter. We just do our work and go home when the sun goes down.
