Garhwal Himalayan Explorations

Tapovan is a busy place these days with everyone coming through for the mountains and the river. We are over at Himalaya House, which is a sturdy old building that has seen plenty of seasons go by. Working at Garhwal Himalayan Explorations means you are always thinking about the trails and what the weather is doing up higher. We spend most of our mornings checking gear and talking to people who want to see the peaks. It’s not just about the trips though, there’s a lot of sitting around waiting for the right conditions to move. The air is always a bit different here, cleaner than the cities, and that keeps us going even when things get stressful with the bookings. We have maps spread out on the old wooden tables and coffee mugs everywhere. It’s a bit of a mess sometimes, but we know where everything is. The neighbors are mostly doing the same thing, so there’s a good community feel in this part of Tapovan. We’ve had all sorts of people walk through our doors over the years, from serious climbers to folks just looking for a short walk. We don’t have a big marketing department or anything like that. It’s just us, some boots, and a lot of local knowledge about the Garhwal range. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just light some candles and keep talking about the routes. It’s a simple way to run a business, focusing on what’s right in front of us.
